The global situation in Hong Kong has not eased

Kuehne + Nagel, a global leading logistics company, has developed a new key performance index, "Seaexplorer Disruption Indicator (Logistics Disruption Index)," designed to measure port efficiency and provide higher visibility of port bottlenecks for shippers and their service providers.Based on waiting capacity (TEU) and the number of delays per ship for each ship, this indicator will generate a "TEU waiting days" data and is updated daily.

The index showed that cumulative container delays in the Seaexplorer-covered hotspot port areas reached a staggering 11.56 million TEU waiting days as of January 19, with 80% of the world's port congestion occurring in North America. The number of ships stranded in global ports is no less than before the Christmas holiday, with 564 of the 25 million containers of 5,700 ships worldwide and 2.4 million containers still waiting.

Otto Schact, executive vice president of Dexin Shipping Logistics, observed that shippers can only expect the global supply chain to return to normal when the index falls below 1 million TEU waiting days, when both the reliability and delivery cycle will improve.
