The court ruled that more than $900 million in compensation was calculated on the basis of losses caused by stranded freighters and other costs. Citing the provisions of the Egyptian maritime trade law, the Canal Authority held that it had the right to detain the ship before the shipowner paid the full amount of the compensation.
British Shipowners Mutual Insurance Society (UK P&I Club), the insurer of the Changzhi Container Ship, found the Suez Canal Authority's claim of $916 million unfounded and was disappointed to detain the ship.
Export hot selling products in the first quarter
According to the General Administration of Customs, the total value of China's import and export of goods in the first quarter was 8.47 trillion RMB, an increase of 29.2 percent over the same period last year. Among them, exports 4.61 trillion, an increase of 38.7 percent; in dollar terms, exports increased 49 percent year on year. In terms of hot-selling export products, China's export of mechanical and electrical products was 2.78 trillion, an increase of 43 percent, accounting for 60.3 percent of the total export value, up 1.7 percentage points from the same period last year. Among them, the export of automatic data processing equipment and its parts, mobile phones and cars increased by 54.5 percent ,38.5 percent, and 98.9 percent respectively. During the same period, the export of epidemic prevention materials continued to grow, and the export of textiles, including masks, increased by 30.6 percent.
