The system includes electrooptic material having an optical transmittance that varies with an electrical signal applied to the material and a power supply to provide the electrical signal to the material. The electrooptic material is disposed to restrict the pilot”s visibility outside the aircraft when the electrooptic material is in a low-optical-transmittance state. The system further includes a flight-safety sensor that sets the output of the power supply to correspond to an optical transmittance state of the electrooptic material that does not substantially restrict the pilot”s visibility outside the aircraft when flight conditions are deemed unsafe. The method includes reducing the optical transmittance of the material to restrict the pilot”s visibility outside the aircraft in a manner unexpected to the pilot at the time of the transmittance reduction.

More convenience than safety, but it’s the same thing, with silkscreens on printed circuit boards (PCBs). Bosses would get cheap and tell me to leave off the silkscreen, that “it’s just a prototype.” I explained that’s exactly why I needed the silkscreen. I was the one going to troubleshoot the board and I needed to identify the components. That’s also why I had to argue with other engineers who did not want to back-annotate the reference designators on the PCB (Fig. 1). They wanted the designators to be based on the schematic they drew.

It's interesting that in the US and UK, Nvidia's 1060 3GB is priced very aggressively, while in Europe the new GTX 1650 ends up as the best Nvidia value right now. But regardless of market, if you're just looking at bang for the buck, AMD's RX 570 4GB can't be beat. I keep expecting inventory of that card to dry up, leading to higher prices, but it's been at or below $130 since the beginning of 2019. The only thing likely to remove RX 570 (and 580) from the market will be when AMD starts shipping Navi, currently rumored for July 7, but we'll have to wait and see.
